7th Grade - Social Studies
Medieval World History
Primary Focus: The seventh grade class will continue their journey through time with a more comprehensive overview of history, economics, culture, ethics, belief systems, and social and political systems of the Medieval world (circa 500-1500 c.e.). This will enhance their civic and cultural awareness and provide a foundation that will be helpful in order to meet the challenges of citizenship in the twenty-first century.
Students will learn how inventions in communication and travel technology changed the world. From there, they will review the impact of the fall of the Roman Empire and then be off on their journey to learn about historical patterns of the rise and fall (or change) of the Medieval civilizations of The Middle East, Africa, China, Japan, and Europe. An overview of the impact of the Renaissance, The Reformation, and the Age of Exploration will place students at the perfect point to begin their studies of the Americas in Grade 8. They will continue working with Cornell Note-taking Techniques and, like grade 6, every opportunity will be made to increase reading comprehension of informational texts, to examine historical patterns in order to make better connections and informed conclusions, to compare historical themes to better evaluate the events of today’s world, and to gain experience and greater success with more demanding academic expectations. (Please review academic policies on Class Guidelines page).
